5 Concerns About Modern Preaching

What is shaping modern preaching—and is it always healthy? In this episode of Revitalize and Replant, Mark Clifton, Mark Hallock, and Dan Hurst discuss key concerns they see emerging in today’s preaching culture.

5 Challenges in Modern Preaching:

1. Entertainment can replace exposition Preaching can drift toward performance and personality instead of explaining the meaning of Scripture.
2. Application can become man-centered Sermons risk focusing more on self-improvement than Christ-centered transformation and repentance.
3. Depth is often sacrificed for brevity The pressure for short, engaging messages can weaken theological depth and biblical clarity.
4. Hard truths are softened or avoided Topics like sin, judgment, holiness, and repentance are sometimes minimized to avoid discomfort.
5. Authority shifts from Scripture to the preacher Reliance on stories, charisma, or trends can replace the authority of God’s Word.

This episode calls pastors back to faithful, text-driven, Christ-exalting preaching.
